Negotiations between Sudanese and Russian Ministries of Finance over debts

Khartoum, (SUNA)-State Minister for Finance and Economic Planning , Dr Abdul-Rahman Dirar revealed that negotiations are being held with Russia over rescheduling its debts to Sudan which are estimated at 19 million dollars.

Dr Dirar asserted to SUNA, that the Ministry has received an initial approval from Russian Ministry of Finance , disclosing that Sudan will benefit in case of settlement of its debts.

He indicated that law in Russia forbidding provision of funds to any country that

failed to pay its debts.

Member of the Sudanese Russian Ministerial Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation, Hussein Yusuf Hussein said in a statement to SUNA, that the Joint Sudanese-Russian Ministerial Committee discussed issue of debts and a proposal about rescheduling of debts was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Minister of Minerals, Dr Ahmed Mohammed Sadiq Al-Karuri a year ago.

He explained that there was a response from the Russian Ministry of Finance and that the Government received what means that the request was considered and there is readiness for talks to reach settlement to debt issue.

He considered response of Ministry of Finance of Russia as settlement of debts for the short-term, expecting that funds will flow in and cooperation between Sudan and Russia will increase , especially in area of infrastructures.
